Money Making Idea With Your Vehicle – Use Your Van Or Large Vehicle To Make Money

Thursday, January 8, 2009

Trying to rent a large vehicle or truck from the rental companies can cost quite a bit, even if you are only going to use the vehicle for a short period of time. If you own a large vehicle you are in luck as you can offer a service of transporting stuff for companies large or small. Your moving service could be an advantage because you are able to transport for others during their inopportune time having sent their employees home or maybe it’s needed on a weekend.

Larger moving companies charge a large sum to move a family’s or business possessions across a long distance. If a move is close to home it would be to your business advantage. There are opportunities for you with your large vehicle that will suffice for a move that is not so distant and don’t require a tremendous amount of things to move.

Some of the situations that your service can be beneficial would be moving children’s items to a local college, spring cleaning, dump transfer, unwanted stuff to Salvation Army or local charity. Actually, any items that won’t easily fit into a smaller car would spell business for you.

If you can set up a few moves during a weekend you can easily make two or three hundred dollars. One bonus a friend of mine has found is that we are a throw out society and he has found quite a few valuable items folks just want to get rid of but are of value.

What to charge for your service? That’s up to you. Consider the mileage involved (note: this is a business and you can deduct your mileage off your taxes, including other expenses, consult with your tax adviser), the amount of things you have to move, difficulty of moving the items, etc. Offer a written quote for your services and have it signed before you move anything.

How Do You Get Business?

You can always advertise in the newspaper and if your local town has a “shopper” type of newsletter you can also advertise there at a lower rate. If you are serious, invest in a Yellow Page ad. Try bulletin boards at banks or your local grocery store. Craigslist.com has a classified area for listing services available you should use. Another thing you might try is to add a sticker to your vehicle’s window or outside door. Once you have generated some business, have a business card produced and hand it out to anyone interested.

Once you have gone through a couple of moving experiences and have given great customer service you will have more easy moving jobs than you will know what to do with.
